A now-paralyzed man has pleaded guilty to a 2002 rape, after a match was made to a rape kit. Albert Evans was sentenced to a 10-year suspended sentence, and remains in a nursing home.
Evans was arrested March 27, 2015 for the rape, after the match was made with the rape kit in 2014. Prosecutors say he had become paralyzed in a car accident at some point between the rape in 2002 and the match in 2014.
He was housed at Regional One, then released to a nursing home in September 2015. Evans entered the guilty plea during a court hearing held at the home.
The Shelby County D.A.’s Office say the victim approved the settlement in the case.
