MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Local 24 Cares in the proud sponsor of this year’s annual Mark Walden Memorial Sickle Cell 5K. The event is named in honor of our late chief meteorologist.
The Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee works daily to improve the lives of people who are living with the disease. Sickle Cell is an inherited group of disorders, where cells die early leaving a shortage of healthy red blood cells, and cells contort to a crescent or ‘sickle’ shape.
Saturday’s efforts support all of the foundation’s efforts across the state.
It all happens Saturday, September 21st at AutoZone Park. Registration begins at 5:00 a.m., and the race starts at 8:00 a.m.
