MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Local 24 Cares and the Mid-South Food Bank teamed up for Turkey Truck Tuesday.
All day, volunteers accepted donations outside Kroger onFarmington Boulevard in Germanton. Shoppers gave items such as frozen turkeys,canned food and money.
Everything collected will go towards feeding a family in needduring the Thanksgiving holiday.
About 370,000 people in the Mid-South face food insecurity. Onein five are children. A dollar can help provide someone with three mealsand $15 will feed a family of four.
That is why many who gave at the drive said it was important tosupport.
“It breaks my heart that any child or anybody should everhave to worry about whether they have enough to eat,” said Pat Jacobs, adonor.
“It’s sad because I feel like everybody deserves a hotmeal,” said Lydia Johnson, anotherdonor.
Kroger delivered carts of more than 100turkeys.
Most of those who donated said their only regretwas that they couldn’t give more.
Turkey Truck Tuesday ran from 5:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
