Bartlett Police are warning their community to lock up their vehicles, this after wallets, electronics and an AR-15 rifle was taken from cars.
“I’m pretty shocked,” said Mike Holland. “This is a pretty safe neighborhood,” he said.
Unfortunately a number of his neighbors have learned crime can happen anywhere. From October 23 to October 28ths roughly 24 people reported car break-ins and thefts.
Many people told police they left their vehicles unlocked. Some even left their keys in plain view.
“I don’t understand that,” said Holland. “You’re just asking for someone to break in at the end. If they see it’s unlocked especially.”
A majority of the thefts happened on Hyman Drive and Sandywood Lane in Bartlett.
On social media the police department warned people about, “false sense of security,” posting a PSA , on their web page, Lock it or lose it campaign.
“Everything will be locked down, tight and secure,” said Bruce Phelps. “I do have a camera system that will be put up within the next day.”
Other cars hit included a hotel on Germantown Road. A woman there had her car window busted out and audio equipment stolen.
“Lock up your cars,” said Holland. “It’s as simple as that.”
According to reports one witness told dispatchers she was watching a Snapchat live stream video of several known suspects actively vandalizing vehicles on a church lot.”
So far Bartlett Police have not made any arrests.

On 10/23/2017 at 20:23 hours, Officer responded to a vandalism complaint at Easthill Baptist, 7050 St Elmo Rd. Witness advised BPD dispatch that she was watching a Snapchat live stream video of several known suspects actively vandalizing vehicles on the church lot. Upon arrival Officer noted that there were two vandalized vehicles on the lot; however the suspects fled prior to Officer’s arrival. The Officers made contact with the witness, and after an investigation, were able to determine the suspects involved, and make an arrest of the suspects.
On Monday 10/23/2017 at approximately 2230 hours the Responding Officer was dispatched to Peyton Randolph on a theft complaint. On arrival, the Officer spoke with the complainant who advised that an unknown individual went inside her vehicle and stole her Ipad Mini. The Unknown Suspect must have entered the vehicle between the hours of 2000 and 2215 according to the complainant.
On 10/24/2017 at 01:03 hours, Officer responded to a Theft from Motor Vehicle at Pamela Ann Dr. Officers were dispatched to an auto burglary in progress. Officers made the area, but didn’t locate the suspects. Officer’s observed a vehicle that appeared to have been burglarized. Officer’s made contact with the homeowner who advised his vehicle was unlocked and nothing appeared missing.
On Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at approximately 0713 hours officer responded to Fletcher Ridge Lane in regard to an auto burglary. Upon arrival officer spoke with complainant who stated that between 10/24/2017 at 1900 hours and 10/25/2017 at 0645 hours an unknown suspect(s) entered her unlocked vehicle and stole two(2) mini Nintendo gaming consoles and two(2) Sony headphones.
On 10/25/17 at approximately 1511 hours, Officer responded to Kate Bond regarding two attempted auto burglaries. Upon arrival, Officer spoke with the complainant who advised that her vehicle was damaged from an attempted Auto burglary. She arrived at the hospital at approximately 0700 hours and came out to her damaged vehicle at approximately 1500 hours. Officer observed damage to the window frame on the front and rear driver’s side doors. It appeared as if an unknown suspect attempted to use a screwdriver and small pry bar to gain entry into the vehicle, however, no entry was made into the vehicle. While on the scene, Officer was advised by victim #2 that it appeared that an unknown person also appeared to damage his vehicle, as well. Officer observed a small amount of damage to the weather stripping on the driver’s side door.
On 10/25/2017 at 15:10 hours, Officer responded to Stage Hills Blvd in regard to an auto burglary complaint. Upon arrival, Officer spoke with the complainant, an employee at the building, who stated that his vehicle was parked behind the above building between 1230 hours and 1430 hours on this day. The complainant stated that he left the key in the driver’s side door of the vehicle. The complainant stated that when he went to his vehicle at 1430 hours, he observed that it had been rummaged through and the vehicle key had been removed from the door. Complainant further stated that an old black wallet ($10) containing various personal items was missing.
On 10/25/2017 at 15:26 hours, Officer responded to 2935 Germantown Pkwy (Hampton Inn) in regard to an auto burglary complaint. Upon arrival, Officer spoke with the complainant, an employee of the business, who stated that at approximately 1520 hours, she was notified by a fellow employee that her vehicle had been broken into. The complainant stated that the glass on the passenger side front door was broken and the paneling was ripped off. The driver’s side door lock was tampered with, the inside of the vehicle was ransacked, and the trunk was popped open. Complainant further stated that a Boss Audio radio/DVD player was stolen along with 2 subwoofers/amplifiers. The complainant stated that she arrived to the business at 0830 hours on this day and didn’t see the vehicle until 1520 hours.
On 10/25/17 at approximately 1649 hours, Officer responded to Bartlett Gap regarding an auto burglary. Upon arrival, Officer spoke with complainant/victim who advised that his unlocked vehicle was broken into at approximately 0500 hours. His Apple iPhone and a 50 round box of 9mm were missing. While on scene, Officer was approached by another victim, who advised that his unlocked vehicle had been rummaged through, though nothing was missing from his vehicle. Once victim had video of a young male drive up and exit, what appears to be, a dark color four door Cadillac. At approximately Officer responded to Wolf Trace regarding another auto burglary. Upon arrival, Officer met the victim who advised that his Apple iPad was taken from his unlocked vehicle overnight.
On Thursday, October 26, 2017 at approximately 05:27 hours Officer responded to Bruton Parish Dr in regard to an auto burglary. Officer spoke with the complainant / victim who advised that an unknown suspect(s) had stolen a handgun out of his vehicle between the hours of 2300-0500 on the night of 10/25/17 leading into the morning of 10/26/17. He was unsure if he locked his vehicle or left it unlocked. Officer did not observe any damage to any locks on victim’s vehicle.
On Thursday, October 26, 2017 at approximately 0610 hours Officer responded to Tooley Cv. in regard to a motor vehicle theft. Officer spoke with the complainant / victim who advised that on the above date between the hours of 0420 and 0600 hours an unknown suspect(s) stole his truck from his driveway. His truck is a 2011 Ford F-150, brown top/gold bottom valued at $18,000.00. A 9mm handgun was located in his center console along with a customized AR-15 that was located in his backseat. He did leave his truck doors unlocked with an ignition key inside of the truck.
On 10/28/2017 at 06:00 hours, Officers responded to a motor vehicle theft at Hyman Dr. Officer arrived on the scene and spoke with victim who stated his vehicle and his wife’s vehicle were last seen parked in the driveway on 10-27-17 at approximately 1700 hours. Both vehicles were unlocked and the keys were left inside. Victim stated this morning at approximately 0530 hours; they noticed the Toyota Prius, parked at the end of their driveway, halfway in the street. He said they went outside and discovered the Honda Accord was stolen. The victim called police. The victim stated the Prius is complicated to start, so the suspect apparently was only able to pre-start the vehicle and place it in neutral.
On 10/28/17 at approximately 0800 hours, Officer was in the area of Hyman Drive regarding several overnight auto burglaries. While assisting, Officer discovered an open center console in a vehicle that was parked in the driveway of Hyman Drive. Officer made contact with the vehicle owner who advised that his vehicle was left unlocked overnight. A wallet containing several personal items was missing from his center console.
On 10/28/17 at approximately 0100 hours, Officer was in the area of Hyman Drive processing vehicles from auto burglaries that occurred overnight when he was flagged down by a complainant. The complainant stated that he came outside this morning and found that his center console in his vehicle had been opened and items rifled through. The vehicle was parked in the drive. The suspects gained entry through unlocked doors.
On 10/28/17 at approximately 0655 hours Officer while on patrol observed several items lying in the street on Windersville. Further investigation by Officer revealed that the items belonged to a home on Windersville. Officer was able to make contact with the homeowners of the residence. The home owner identified the items as his, for a youth honor group. He left the box in his vehicle on the front passenger seat. Further inspection of the vehicle revealed the vehicle had been left unlocked and that unknown person(s) had gone through the vehicle and removed the box.
On 10/28/17 at approximately 1127 hours, Officer responded to Sandywood in reference to an auto burglary. Upon arrival, Officer spoke with the victim who advised that he parked his vehicle on 10/27/17 at approximately 18:05 hours and left it unlocked. He advised that when he parked his vehicle the center console was closed. At approximately 1130 hours on today’s date, he went to his vehicle and found his center console open. The complainant advised several personal items
On 10/28/17 at approximately 0800 hours, Officer was in the area of Hyman Drive regarding several overnight auto burglaries. During the investigation a green Acura was located, in the driveway on Hyman Drive, with the center console raised and papers strewn about the inside of the vehicle. Officer made contact with the owner who advised that her vehicle was left unlocked overnight and that there was nothing of value inside the vehicle.
On 10/28/17 at approximately 1000 hours, Officer was dispatched to Haynes Road regarding theft from a motor vehicle. Upon contact Officer spoke with the victim, who stated that she went to her vehicle this morning and observed the glove box opened and the items inside the glove box out on the front passenger seat. The suspects gained entry through unlocked doors.
On 10/28/17 at approximately 0935 hours Officer McArthur, responded to Sandywood Lane in reference to an auto burglary. Upon arrival, Officer spoke with the victim who advised that her vehicle had been burglarized overnight. Sometime between 0230 hours and 0500 hours her dog began barking aggressively at the front windows of the house but she did not look out of the windows. At approximately 0915 hours when she went to her vehicle she found her center console open and her property was missing. She did leave her vehicle unlocked.
On 10/28/2017 at approximately 0657 hours, Officer while on an auto burglary at Windersville was flagged down by a passing motorist. The motorist stated that during the overnight hours unknown person(s) had entered his unlocked vehicle and rummaged through his vehicle, which was parked at his residence.
On 10/28/2017 at approximately 0745 hours Crime Scene Officer was dispatched to Haynes Rd. in regard to an auto burglary. On arrival Officer made contact with the complainant/ victim who stated that during the overnight hours, unknown person(s) tried to steal his 2007 Gold Chevy Impala that was parked behind his truck in his driveway. The unknown suspect(s) entered his truck by an unlock door where the suspect(s) located a key for the Chevy Impala. The Unknown Suspect(s) then entered the Chevy Impala where they tried to back the vehicle up between the Toyota truck and his neighbor’s house. While backing the vehicle up, the suspect(s) wedged the vehicle between the truck with trailer and the neighbor’s house causing damage to the front passenger side fender of the vehicle.
On 10/28/2017 at 08:20 hours, Officer responded to a Theft from Motor Vehicle at Haynes Rd. On arrival, Officer made contact with the complainant/victim who stated that during the overnight hours unknown suspect(s) entered his vehicle that was parked under the carport of his residence. The suspect(s) entered the vehicle through an unlocked front right passenger door. The complainant believes nothing was taken from the vehicle.
On 10/28/2017 at 18:30 hours, Officer responded to a Theft from a Motor Vehicle at Jill’s Creek Dr. Officer spoke with victim who stated that his unlocked vehicle was gone through by an unknown suspect(s). Taken from the vehicle was an older model iPod. The theft occurred sometime between 0100 and 0800 hours on 10/28/17. It should be noted that two other unlocked vehicles were rummaged through at the same address, but the owners advised that nothing was taken from the vehicles.
