But water is our lifeline, the one resource which gives Memphis a unique advantage. No other city in the country has such a huge supply of the cleanest water you’ll find anywhere.
Think of it this way. The water we all drink now, pumped up from the Memphis aquifer, first fell as rain when Jesus walked the earth.
So Local 24 News will be closely following what U of M researchers learn from their five-year study into whether the aquifer is contaminated.
They’re looking for possible breaches in the soil under the Wolf, Nonconnah, and Lossahatchie Rivers.
Wednesday, executives with companies like International Paper got an update on the study’s progress. They and other companies already know what we should appreciate more. With dire predictions about the fate of the world’s water supply, we’re lucky to have some liquid gold right underneath our feet.
