Reward Offered After Spay Memphis’ Can Donation Trailer Was Stolen

Non-profit Spay Memphis wants its trailer back. The trailer, used for can donations, was stolen early Monday morning.

The group uses the cans to raise money to spay and neuter pets and strays.

Spay Memphis is located in the High Point Terrace area on Summer Avenue.

Spay Memphis, formerly known as Mid-South Spay and Neuter, was counting on the can money to help with expenses. They can’t help pet owners without support.

“It’s very disappointing, because that money was going towards low-cost spay and neuter for pet owners in our community that can’t afford it otherwise,” says Executive Director Brittany Pace.

Spay Memphis is trying to make a dent in pet overpopulation in the Mid-South.

“That’s supposed to be helping low income people help afford spay and neuter surgeries,” says Janet Havel.

Surveillance video from Monday morning around 2:30 a.m. shows a man in the parking lot. He fiddles with the trailer, then returns with a truck and takes off with the trailer.

“We were hoping to raise about $20,000 a year,” says Pace.

“We’ve only had this trailer a couple of months, so we haven’t even gotten to see the profits,” says Havel. “That’s robbing from your own community.”

Iskiwitz Metal Recycling that donated the trailer is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who stole the trailer.

If you recognize the man or his truck, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
