MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)– Bouncing balls on a screen may look like a modern-day version of pong, but it’s actually part of a new high-tech treatment for stroke and brain injury patients.

The InMotion Arm robotic therapy system guides patients through repeated, identical motions in the course of a therapy session which not only helps form new connections in the brain, it also allows patients to perform more movements in an hour than with a human therapist, about a thousand verse 50.

The robotic arm, which was developed by BIONIK Laboratories and is being used at Baptist Memorial Rehabilitation Hospital, can also help people living with multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.

Forty-seven patients a day are admitted to Tennessee hospitals for stroke and brain injuries.
