Saturday’s Severe Weather Topples Trees, Causes Some Flooding

For Memphis residents, Saturday night came with plenty of rain and on Sunday morning, loud thunder.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – For Memphis residents, Saturday night came with plenty of rain and this morning, loud thunder.

Some people woke up to major tree damage on South Belvedere.

A Memphis Public Works crew responded to the sight near Peabody, sawing and clearing away what they could.

It was a similar sight on Bartlett Road near Pleasant View. The road was closed in both directions while crews worked to clear it.

“It’s been horrible, this rain. I’m ready for it to dry up in Memphis,” said Nick Bogdanovic, a Midtown Resident. “It’s insane.”

One woman describes the severe conditions when she was outside Saturday.

“All of a sudden the wind got really violent and started blowing toward me,” said residentKiona McNutt. “I was dry but in a matter of seconds I was soaked.”

Meanwhile, water flooded on Ridge Manor Drive in Hickory Hill, impacting part of one woman’s garage.

A city worker told Local 24 News it took about 15 minutes for the water to recede out once drains were cleaned.
