Shelby County Schools is getting ready to accept school choice applications.

It’s all about giving parents and students the option to have a say in where they attend school.

Here’s what you need to know:

Students may apply for two general choice options and/or two optional schools.

The process takes place online.

There’s no need to camp outside the school board as in years past.

Current SCS students should use their power school ID to apply.

Non-SCS students will need to use a social security number.

Applications received by 11:59 p.m., February 1st, will be processed first.

Representatives tell us why giving parents options is important for their child’s education.

“Optional Schools provide parents choices. They go beyond the regular curriculum. They may be a program that’s on transportation and STEM. We have a brand new program that started last year at East High School that has like 36 adopters or partners beginning with Cummings, Federal Express, and all the transportation companies. They’re working with developing our curriculum, internships,” says Linda Sklar/Director of SCS Optional Schools.

Applications will be available starting at 10:00 a.m Monday.

If you don’t have computer or internet access, you’re welcome to use your child’s school, or the SCS Parent Welcome Center.
