Memphis police are searching for the driver of a silver Ford Mustang who witnesses say hit a man walking across the street in midtown Memphis.
It happened about 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night at Madison and Morrison Street, in front of LBOE and The Blue Monkey. Witnesses told police William Christopher Phillips, who goes by Chris, and a woman were walking north across Madison Avenue when the Mustang slammed into Phillips.
Another witness said he saw Phillips flip over the car, and the Mustang briefly paused, before speeding away east on Madison Avenue toward East Parkway.
“I think it was somebody that was intoxicated if I had to guess because you don’t just go through a busy entertainment district like that and plow somebody down and keep going,” says witness Jason Whitworth.
Phillips was taken to Regional One where he died.
