MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- The 2019 Shelby County Youth Council held their first meeting in Uptown Memphis on Saturday.
The group assembled to discuss solving issues that youth have identified in the community.
Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris and the Shelby County Commission are supporting the effort because they say they want young people serving as key partners in making decisions that affect kids across the community.
The inaugural group is made up of 2 high school students from each Shelby County Commission district.
They were selected to represent a wide range of ages, races and genders.
