TBI investigating deadly Bartlett shooting where officer was involved

A shooting took place at Ellis Road and Golden Velley Lane on Saturday, according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

BARTLETT, Tenn. — A shooting where one woman died and a deputy was somehow involved took place in Bartlett on Saturday, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).

TBI officials said that agents are now investigating the incident at the request of District Attorney Steve Mulroy.

The shooting took place at Ellis Road and Golden Velley Lane, according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office. This is next to the Shelby County Cemetery and across the street from Galilee Memorial Gardens.

The shooting happened at about 2:40 p.m., according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

According to the TBI, Shelby County deputies spotted a vehicle that had been involved in an incident in Fayette County earlier in the day. It isn't known by the TBI why the officers approached the vehicle, but shots were fired and the driver was struck.

This driver was later identified by the TBI as Melissa S. Horton of Brownsville.

No officers were injured, according to the TBI.

Evidence is being collected and interviews are being conducted by members of the TBI in order to "independently determine the series of events leading to the shooting."
