Four SCSO deputies on administrative leave as investigation continues into officer-involved shooting

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is responding to the scene in south Memphis after a deputy was shot, another deputy injured, and a suspect killed.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – UPDATE 9/20/2019 – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office held news conference Friday on the officer-involved shooting that left a suspect dead earlier this week.

Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner says the deputies who were injured are doing well and recovering at home. One deputy was shot seven times, one of those in the vest. Another deputy was bitten by a dog.

Sheriff Bonner also said four deputies are on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

There were multiple task forces – fugitive apprehension team and multi-agency gang unit – involved. The sheriff said body cameras were not part of that team’s undercover operation.

9/19/2019 12:30 p.m. – The TBI has identified the suspect killed as 33-year-old Willie Hudson of Memphis.

Shelby County records show Hudson was wanted on attempted first-degree murder and convicted felon in possession of a handgun charges.

UPDATE 9/19/2019: The Shelby County Deputy injured gunfire Wednesday evening while serving an arrest warrant has been released from the hospital.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is responding to the scene in south Memphis after a deputy was shot, another deputy injured, and a suspect killed.

It happened about 3:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Haven Circle. Officials say the deputies were serving an arrest warrant when the shooting happened.

The SCSO tweeted out: “SCSO and MPD are on the scene of a deputy-involved shooting in the 1200 block of Haven Circle. One deputy was shot and transported to Regional One in critical condition. A second deputy was injured and transported to ROH in non-critical condition.”“TBI has been notified. The suspect has been pronounced deceased on the scene.”

Law enforcement officer have gathered at Regional One. During a news conference there, officials said one deputy was shot several times, in the torso and the leg. They say that deputy is up and talking, and is in good spirits. Officials say they believe the other injured deputy was bitten by a dog.
