Traveling With The Tigers

Forget the summer heat, Tiger football fans are already looking ahead to the fall and the team’s first away game. How would you like to travel with the team? Local 24’s Dave Detling is inside the Tigers Den with the details.

Nothing beats the feel of the Tigers Den and sitting inside the Liberty Bowl. But already boosters are gearing up to kiss the stadium goodbye as they plan for the team’s first away game.

Tiger football fans pack your bags and get ready to head to the Old-Line State better known as Maryland.

Sure, it might be summer, but the football booster club and Tiger Scholarship Fund members are already thinking about U of M’s first away game.

“Most Tiger fans can recite the schedule to you know mostly from memory,” said Bob Byrd with Bartlett Bank.

The date on Byrd’s mind is Saturday, September 8th when the Tigers take on the Navy Midshipman.

“Annapolis is a great historic treasure in itself with the Naval Academy being there,” said Boyd. “It’s worth the tour, it’s worth the time to tour the Naval Academy.”

But what Byrd wants most is a win over navy.

“Navy is a tremendous test because they play a different brand of football,” he said. “They run the ball, they don’t throw the ball and they play absolutely brutal defense.”

Sweetening the possibility of another win, this year Tiger fans are looking to experience their host city in style.

“This year we’ll be staying at the Baltimore Inner Harbor, which is a prominent tourist location and destination,” said Byrd. “They’ve got the National Aquarium there, dozens of state and national parks. It’s just a cool place to be and I think people will really enjoy staying on the water and just a lot of different ways to have fun.”
