The revamped trolleys are set to make their return to Main Street Monday.

There will be an 11 a.m. ceremony before passengers can ride. Rides will be free from April 30 until May 14. You can ride the trolley for $1 each way after that.

Rides will run on 30-minute cycles.

For now, the Main Street trolleys will run from Main and A.W. Willis to Main and Butler.

The Riverfront and Madison Street lines are expected to reopen in 2019 and 2020.

“We are excited about the trolleys. It’s some good news for our organization. It’s program that is important to our community both for an opportunity to get back and forth to work but also as a tourism piece to it that’s important a well,” said MATA CEO Gary Rosenfeld.

In 2014 trolleys were taken out of service, after two fires brought up questions about safety.

As they worked to bring the trolleys back, MATA said their goal was to have the safest system in the country.
