Schools to Close

Local 24 has learned that two local schools run by former Memphis Mayor and Memphis City Schools Superintendent Willie Herenton will close their doors at the end of the school year.

DuBois High School of Leadership and Public Policy and W.E.B DuBois High School of Arts and Technology will close at the end of June. Both are run by the DuBois Consortium of Charter Schools.

According to a letter sent to parents at the Arts and Technology school, administrators faced challenges finding educators who were highly qualified and certified in their specialized areas.

SCS Released the following statement:

“We have been informed the DuBois High School of Leadership and Public Policy and DuBois High Schools of Arts and Technology will close at the end of the school year. Shelby County Schools and the DuBois Consortium will work together to ensure that families are informed of their options so they can make the best decision regarding education for their children.”
