RALEIGH SHOOTING 10PM

Memphis Police and Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies had a busy weekend after thirteen people were shot across the area, seven of those victims have died.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate one case in Raleigh where six people were shot and one of those victims is a 13-year-old boy.  It happened around 7:00 p.m. on Sun Ridge Drive.

Shelby County investigators identified the men who died as 22-year-old Marquese Taylor and 18-year-old Marcus Conway.  Three victims remain in the hospital as of Sunday night.

Local 24 News went back to the neighborhood to speak to neighbors.  One woman says she heard the violence.

“We just heard two gunshots go off and then we heard a car speed off and that’s all we really know,” said one woman who did not want to be identified out of fear for her safety. “Next thing we know we saw police cars and the sheriff’s and stuff out here. We figured something bad had happened.”

Lieutenant Anthony Buckner with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department says the shooting resulted from a fight while the men were gambling.  A 13-year-old boy was present, but it is not clear why.  He was released from LeBonheur Children’s Hospital.

“It’s several stories I mean you ain’t going to hear the full truth yet but I’m going to let the law handle it, but I’m really concerned about the hospital and the way they did it. Talking about I couldn’t see my son, they took him away without us seeing him,” said David Morris, a father of one of the victims.

Investigators believe this was an isolated incident.  All of the victims knew the suspects.  Neighbors say the area is usually pretty quiet and a shooting to this magnitude is out of the norm.

“There was no lights on at that house or the one next door and I had looked out the window, I told my husband we need neighborhood watch it is too dark out here,” one neighbor said.

Deputies are still searching for the suspects.  Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department or Crimestoppers at 901-528-CASH.
