The Memphis and Shelby County Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) needs volunteers to help beautify the Uptown Community during its Rock the Block Beautification Party Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. at 751 North Manassas, at the corner of Manassas and Looney.
Volunteers will help with landscaping for residents in the neighborhood and then enjoy lunch, fun and live entertainment from the Kingsbury High School drumline.
Volunteers must be 16 and older, and minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All ages are welcome at lunch.
“We are excited to be involved in this beautification project,” said Rosalyn Willis, President, CRA. “The more volunteers the better for the event on Saturday. We encourage the community to come out and help us add trees and flowers to this neighborhood.”
The CRA works with community residents, business owners, and other stakeholders to determine community priorities and potential projects in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) areas as designated by the Memphis City Council and Shelby County Commission to address blight and provide affordable housing. Saturday’s revitalization event is a part of the community-led plan for the Uptown Community.
