MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) — The wind and rain didn’t slow down the folks with Clovernook Center for the Blind and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad from hosting their first-ever Beeping Easter Egg Hunt at Willow Park Friday morning.

The idea came from Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad Sergeant Judson Maxwell who had been looking for a way to make a visually-impaired Easter Egg Hunt a reality after reading an article in a trade magazine.

The Easter eggs used for the hunt have a device internally that makes a repetitive beeping sound which allows visually-impaired people to track down the eggs.

Clovernook Communications Skills Instructor Stephanie Jones says these kinds of opportunities for inclusion are invaluable for the visually-impaired.

“The big thing is, we’re breaking down the barriers on what’s keeping them separate from everybody else. Out here, they’re all the same. They’re all just kids,” said Jones.
