WEB EXTRA: How Selling Tickets Led Man to Spending 6+ Years Working With Elvis

We are in the midst of Elvis Week and fans are continuing to flock to the Mid-South in celebration of their king. Fans look forward to a variety of events, both in and around Graceland this week.

One of the most popular events is the opportunity to meet people that had a direct relationship with Elvis.

As a young man, Charles Stone had just begun his career with popular concert promotion Concerts West, when, after selling out a show in lightning quick speed, he was told to make a phone call to a number and to inform the person he had sold all of the tickets. The phone call would change his life.

On the other end of the phone was Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis’ trusted right-hand man. Charles says Parker was pleased with his performance and asked him to fly out to the west coast for a meeting.

“So, I flew to California, the Colonel took an instant liking to me and for the next six and a half years all I did was Elvis,” said Stone.

Stone went on to have a successful career as a tour manager, in addition to working in the music video industry. He has now written three books about his time working for Elvis, the latest titled, “Life in the Elvis World” which is out now.
