The small city of Munford, Tennessee is on the national map after Tennessee lottery leaders confirmed someone in the 6,000 person community scored one of three Powerball jackpot tickets.

The winners in Tennessee, California, and Florida would split a record jackpot of nearly $1.6 billion.

The news has Munford residents buzzing, knowing one of their own could be in possession of more than a half a billion lump sum jackpot.

The winner has not come forward, but we do know that someone went into the Naifeh grocery store and overcame the odds.

It is an event that’s brought in national media and local excitement.

“Nobody can believe it,” Munford resident Lisa Kelso said.

“Everybody calling me since 6 o’clock. Did you hear?” Munford resident Mike Vaden said.

“It’s probably one of the biggest things that’s ever happened to this small town,” Munford resident Lance Long said.

In all likelihood, someone in this small city 30 miles north of Memphis woke up Thursday morning holding one of three golden, life changing Powerball jackpot tickets.

“It says big things can happen in small places,” Munford resident Cass Thomas said.

“It gives us more hope that we can win something up here,” Vaden said.

Some suggested the Powerball winner, if he or she lives in Munford, could share a small chunk of the winnings with everyone living here.

“There’s 6000 people in Munford. They could share,” Kelso said.

Others here wondered what the winner will do with all that dough.

“I wouldn’t know what to do with that kind of money. That kind of money makes my head explode,” Long said.

“You could never spend that much money. You could do a lot for a lot of people,” Kelso said.

The owner of Naifeh’s also gets a $25,000 check. She promised to give some of the proceeds back to her employees.
