The London auction house Sotheby’s sold an antique chess piece for $929,000 Tuesday.
The Lewis Warder isconsidered to be one of the most famous chess pieces in the world. Only 93 pieceslike it have been found. According to Sotheby’s, experts believe it was carvedbetween the late 12th and early 13th centuries in Norway.
An antiques dealer boughtthe medieval piece for $6 in Scotland in 1964 and kept it in a drawer for 55 years.
