On Newsfeed Now for April 19, we begin with an update on Hurricane Michael, which has now been upgraded to a category 5 storm. The post-storm analysis showed Michael actually had estimated sustained winds of 160 mph when it made landfall near Mexico beach on Oct. 10. Wind speeds were originally estimated to be 155 mph, just 2 mph shy of reaching category 5 status on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Michael is the first category 5 hurricane to make landfall in the United States since Hurricane Andrew in 1992. It’s only the fourth category 5 hurricane on record in the United States. Hurricane Michael was the strongest hurricane to ever make landfall in the Florida panhandle. Six months later, many survivors are still working to rebuild.

Next, one year ago Monday the nation turned to Nashville where a man in a trench coat walked into a Waffle House with an AR-15 and killed four people in less than 45 seconds. One of the men who survived stopped the gunman. WKRN’s Jessica Jaglois spoke with both about the one year anniversary of the shooting.

Our final story took us to Florida about “fowl play.” Anytime somebody is asked to tell a joke, we always turn to the classics like “why did the chicken cross the road.” Well, one chicken in Florida didn’t make it to the other side. It was hit by a deputy’s vehicle and died. It’s enough to stir some controversy after someone reporting the deputy shot and killed the bird.
