MEMPHIS, Tenn. (LocalMemphis.com) — In the early hours of July 19, 2010, Memphis basketball star Lorenzen Wright was shot to death. Unlike all previous anniversary’s of his passing, this could be the last chapter in the story of his murder with a trial fast approaching.

For nearly two years, Wright’s ex-wife Sherra Wright and her friend,Billy Turner, have sat in jail waiting for their day in court.

The pair were arrested in 2017 and accused of conspiring to kill Lorenzen.

Just after midnight, nine years ago, a 911 call to a Germantowndispatcher was made from Lorenzen Wright’s cell phone.

The call captured the sound of multiple gunshots. At the time, thecall wasn’t immediately followed up on but it’s believed to be the moment hewas killed.

Days later, his mother filed a missing persons report.

Wright’s body wasn’t found until 10 days after he was killed.

The case remained cold for seven years until the murder weapon wasrecovered from a lake in Mississippi.

Police said the gun was the key in breaking the case which led to thearrest of Sherra Wright and Turner.

With their trial date closing in, Lorenzen Wright’s family hopes it’llbring the closure and justice they’ve waited nine years for.

“Let me breathe again, it makes me really feel good because mymom is crying, she’s so happy, get this over with, because she’s getting older,we don’t have years and years and years to wait any longer, she’s 86, so weneed to get this over with,” Lorenzen’s mother Deborah Marion told Local 24News following a court proceeding earlier this year.

Sherra Wright and Billy Turner are scheduled to stand trial in September.

“I want Justice for him. Just having her locked up ain’t doing nogood for me I want her sentenced,” Marion said.
