MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The Local 24 Storm Team wants to help you get prepared for severe weather season.

According to the National Weather Service, the most active time of the severe weather season are the months of April, May, and early June.

To help keep you safe this season, Local 24 Storm Team will be at different Kroger locations across the Mid-South each Wednesday in May to help you program your Midland weather radios.

A weather radio is a specialized receiver that will air weather reports on a continual basis. The radio can be muted or tuned to sound an alarm when a severe weather alert is active.

This type of radio is useful when power goes out or television service goes out during severe weather because it uses battery power. This way, you can still be alerted without having power.

These weather radios can also be set to only broadcast severe weather alerts for your county, and whether you want to be alerted using the display, a voice, and a tone.

Visit the Kroger locations on the dates listed below to have your weather radio programmed by the Local 24 Storm Team. Just bring your radio, or if you don’t have one, you can purchase one inside the Kroger store.
