Thank you to the people who are helping, and shame on those who are not

Local 24 News political analyst and commentator Otis Sanford shares his point of view on courage during COVID-19 outbreak.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — There are lots of examples of people exhibiting courage and compassion during the coronavirus pandemic. Some who immediately come to mind are doctors, nurses, and other hospital personnel who are working around the clock the treat the sick and comfort the dying. Others include first responders, such as law enforcement officers - some of whom have now tested positive for covid-19. And let's not forget service workers, including grocery store employees, drug store workers, and food bank employees and volunteers. These are people making a difference.

But there are also those whose actions are counterproductive at best - and downright ridiculous at worse. They include a few politicians, for sure, at both the federal and state level.

We've all seen the White House briefings that the President has turned into a daily circus. And we've watched as a few governors have made their responses to the coronavirus all about politics. There is Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch, who plans to waste time and money suing the Chinese government for allowing covid-19 to invade her state.

This pandemic has disrupted our lives in unprecedented ways. Thank you to the people who are helping. And shame on those who are not. And that's my point of view.
