GERMANTOWN, Tenn — In Thursday’s Ransom Note: the other pandemic, one we don't talk about as much as we should. It's one of misinformation, and COVID-19 has exposed just how bad the problem is.
The anti-Semitic Facebook posts of a Houston High School assistant principal and history teacher are the latest examples. Yes, Germantown Municipal School District has launched an investigation, but that shouldn't take long and both individuals should be terminated. To compare having to show a vaccination card with identifying yourself for the Nazi death camps shows even history isn't immune from how, in this age of misinformation, facts and the truth don't matter like they used to.
But this should also be a teaching moment for Germantown Schools. Something is seriously wrong within the district's culture if two high school educators thought those posts were remotely okay. And all the supportive posts from students shows they don't understand, either. GMSD should promise to have all faculty and students undergo training on inclusivity so that this doesn't happen again.
