ARLINGTON, Tenn. — Another day, another twist in the boundary dispute over that slice of no-man's land in Arlington, where depending on who you ask, is either in Shelby County or Fayette County.
Although, it's been in Shelby County for decades.
I learned Thursday night the Shelby County Election Commission has passed a temporary fix that Chairman Mark Luttrell said will allow every neighbor in the disputed area to vote as Shelby County residents in the upcoming August and November elections.
That includes Lee Mills, the FedEx pilot who first brought attention to this whole thing by deciding to run for state representative only to be told by the secretary of state's office his home is in Fayette County.
But that apparently doesn't include his wife, Amber Mills, an elected Shelby County commissioner who now must get a judge who must decide if she lives in Shelby County.
Luttrell said that draft legislation is already in the works so that the state legislature can permanently fix the boundary issue when state lawmakers convene again in January.
So while neighbors now know they can vote in Shelby County... still unresolved: which county's property taxes do they pay? Where do they register they cars?
County Appraiser Melvin Burgess is holding a news conference on that issue Friday. We'll let you know what happens.
