Opinion | This is just an embarrassing time in Memphis | Richard Ransom

Local 24 News Anchor Richard Ransom discusses in his Ransom Note about how we don't really have a defense when addressing the vaccine chaos and water crisis.

MEMPHIS, Tenn — In tonight’s Ransom Note: you know what really irks me about the vaccine fiasco, and to a lesser extent the water crisis?

Each one gives ammunition to all the Tennesseans who don’t live in Shelby County but love to look down and criticize those who do.

When lawmakers in Nashville like to single us out as the big drain or the stepchild who doesn’t belong, we say it’s unfair because it often is.

But the vaccine fiasco is a straight up embarrassment.

How can you defend wasting thousands of vaccines and stockpiling thousands more when that’s not allowed?

Not to mention weeks and weeks of chaos at vaccination sites. For example, our elderly waiting for hours and hours and still being sent home without their shots?

And then we can’t even take care of our basic infrastructure enough so that 650-thousand citizens don’t have to boil their water before they drink it?

On social media our critics are having a great time at our expense and there’s not much we can say in our defense.
