(GOODYEAR NEWS RELEASE) – To celebrate Memphis and Penn State for advancing to theCotton Bowl (played tomorrow, Dec. 28), the Cotton Bowl and title sponsorGoodyear just unveiled massive, “Texas-sized” statues of the Memphis’ Tom theTiger and Penn State Nittany Lion mascots, made entirely from hundreds oftires.

Each mascotweighs more than 200 pounds and stands over five feet. Collectively, they weremade from more than 260 tires, use 450 hidden screws, and took 400+ man hoursto complete. Former minor league baseball player and talented artist, BlakeMcFarland, handcrafted the massive statues, which were unveiled yesterday atAT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Thesestatues continue a four-year tire art tradition at Cotton Bowl, which has seenthe likes of the Notre Dame Leprechaun, Ohio State’s Brutis the Buckeye and theUSC Trojan.
