MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – In Friday’s Ransom Note: The Year of the Tiger. On this eve before the U of M’s biggest football game ever, it’s important to appreciate the moment.

With a win Saturday in the Cotton Bowl, it’s conceivable the university’s football and basketball programs both will be in the top ten. One of many accomplishments that would be unprecedented this year.

When ESPN’s College Gameday came to town, the mood was electric. At the time, that game against SMU was the biggest game ever. There have been three more “biggest games ever” since then, including the Cotton Bowl.

Sure there have been rough patches. James Wiseman’s departure, the NCAA probe, an athletic director’s ugly departure. Mike Norvell’s departure was expected but still disappointing.

Yet early appearances suggest the U of M didn’t miss a step by selecting Silverfield to continue the momentum, and Penny remains one of the coolest coaches ever, of one of the most talented teams. So, enjoy the moment Tigers fans. This is your year.
