Portion of Central Avenue to close for 4 days for railroad bridge repair

Drivers who normally use Central Avenue between Barksdale Street and Cooper Street should use a different route during the days of the closure.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Beginning Monday, October 10, at 7 a.m., Central Avenue between Barksdale Street and Cooper Street will be completely closed to through traffic to allow a railroad contractor to repair the railroad bridge that extends over Central Avenue.

According to the city of Memphis, the closure will be in effect daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Thursday, October 13.

Delays are to be expected. Local traffic will have access on Central Avenue up to the closure at the railroad tracks. Drivers who normally use Central Avenue between Barksdale Street and Cooper Street should use a different route during the days of the closure. 

The signed detour route will make use of Barksdale Street, Southern Avenue and Cooper Street.
