Traffic moving again after pedestrian hit by MPD officer on I-240

At 9:40 a.m., police said westbound lanes on I-240 have now reopened and traffic is moving through.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Update 9:40 a.m.: Police said westbound lanes on I-240 have now reopened and traffic is moving through.

All westbound lanes of Interstate 240 are closed at Lamar Ave. following an early morning accident involving an on-duty Memphis Police officer where a pedestrian was hit.  

Memphis Police tell ABC24 that an officer struck a pedestrian in the westbound lanes of I-240 between Lamar and Airways just before 5:45am. That person was pronounced dead on the scene.

All traffic is being directed off at Lamar Ave. Motorists should use Democrat Rd. or Winchester Rd. to Airways Blvd. as an alternate route.
