Weak tornado causes tree damage in Haywood County, Tennessee

Tree damage was reported along Shaw Chapel Rd south of Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — A weak tornado touched down in Haywood County, Tennessee early Tuesday morning.

Debris was detected by weather radar just before 2:30am south of Brownsville. While no one actually reported seeing a tornado, this type of debris signature is typically associated with a weak tornado.

Reports from storm spotters confirmed tree damage along Shaw Chapel Rd., a few miles south of Highway 79.

The National Weather Service office in Memphis sent a survey team to the area on Wednesday, and they confirmed the damage was caused by a weak EF-0 tornado with winds of 80 mph.

There was not a Tornado Warning in effect for Haywood County at the time, but a Tornado Watch had been issued a few hours prior.

No injuries were reported, and there were no reports of any structures damaged.
