MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – A Memphis man and another teen are accused in a rash of auto burglaries this week in northeast Memphis.
18-year-old Hussein Mberwa and the other teen are charged with burglary and theft of property.
Police say Monday, several victims called to report their cars had been broken into overnight. A woman in the 5400 block of Rappahannock said someone had rummaged through her car. Another man reported a Ruger handgun was stolen from his SUV in the 5300 block of Adney Gap Cv. Police say video surveillance captured the suspect in both cases.
Police say they identified the suspects, and Mberwa admitted to breaking into 36 vehicles early Monday morning. Police say Mberwa and the teen identified each other in the surveillance video.
Mberwa’s bond is set at $10,000. Information on the other teen’s status is not available.
