South Memphis man indicted on charges of strangling roommate to death

(SHELBY COUNTY D.A. NEWS RELEASE) – A South Memphis man has been indicted on second-degree murder charges in the strangulation death of his elderly roommate earlier this year, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.

Defendant Robert Earl Jr., 58, is being held in the Shelby County Jail.

The incident occurred on April 21 of this year at the apartment Earl shared with 67-year-old Lee Nang Ng in the 100 block of East Utah Avenue in South Memphis. According to investigators, the two got into an argument that turned physical and ended with Earl strangling his roommate to death.

The case is being handled by Chief Prosecutor Chris Lareau of the District Attorney’s Vertical Team 3 which handles cases in General Sessions Division 11 and Criminal Court Division 3.
