City of Bartlett celebrates with early Fourth of July fireworks display

BARTLETT, Tenn. ( – Thousands came out to celebrate America’s Independence Day early at Bartlett’s Star-Spangled Fireworks Extravaganza.

Families watched a 20-minute fireworks display light up the sky. Many camped out as early as 5:00 p.m. in the evening to get a decent spot.

This was the 20th year for the show has been held at the Bartlett Performing Arts Center.

“Fireworks, fun and grandkids,” is what resident Frank Bilbro says keeps him attending year after year.

“I think just being together,” said Bilbro. “Being together. We’ve been in Bartlett for many years. This is a great event.”

A variety of vendors sold carnival food favorites. Activities for the kids included inflatables to play sports and even a spot to get a temporary tattoo.

“More and more people are showing up,” said Vice-Mayor Jack Young. “You can park across the city and people park strategically where they can see the fireworks without having to try and get here.”

Terrance Strahhan came for the first time this year, bringing with him his fiancée and family.

“We just came on out, and came out to see the festivities and see the big fantastic fireworks display,” he said.

Organizers say in about a week, they will meet to discuss how to improve next year’s fireworks display.
