MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) — For “Giving Tuesday” the Shelby County School District is warming more than hearts through its annual winter clothing drive.
Starting at 7 a.m., SCS staff will be outside the Board of Education collecting donations for Operation Warm Hearts. For the last five years, SCS has held the clothing drive to ensure all students are warm throughout the winter.
“We serve about 100,000 students in Shelby County Schools. 70,000, of which, are identified as economically disadvantaged. So, these donations help our students and our families go a long way towards helping them,” Erin Luster, SCS Community Engagement Officer, said.
Operation Warm Hearts is seeking donations of new coats, jackets, outerwear, hats, gloves and scarves.
People can also donate from their smartphones using the CashApp. Make that donation to “$SupportSCS” FOR – “Warm Hearts”.
Through last year’s event, Operation Warm Hearts was able to collect $18,000 worth of donations.
Donations can be dropped off at the Board of Education until 6 p.m Tuesday.
All the items will later be sorted and sent to every school in the district.
