MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – AT&T is teaming up with Southwest Tennessee Community College to show it believes in Tennessee students.
The two groups handed out school supplies Tuesday to students at Dunbar Elementary School in Orange Mound.
AT&T also presented to $5,000 check to Southwest Tn Community College’s Emergency Fund, which helps students who have an unexpected expense, like a flat tire on the way to class.
“For many of us, if we walk outside and encounter a flat tire or dead battery, it’s a matter of getting to our local store to purchase another. For many students, that’s a decision on whether they can actually get to class. It’s a decision on whether their family eats that week,” said Jacqueline Faulkner, VP of Student Affairs at Southwest Tn Community College.
All of this was made possible by AT&T’s new “Believe Tennessee” initiative, which aims to remove barriers to academic success.
