New law funds pay raises for Mississippi teachers

Education

JACKSON, Miss. (localmemphis.com) – Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves has signed his first bill into law to fully cover the cost of the 2019 teacher pay raises.

Teachers across the Magnolia State were supposed to get a $1,500 pay raise last year, but the Mississippi Department of Education said it miscounted the number of eligible teachers and needed an additional $15 million to cover the gap.
