MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Local students are getting in the holiday spirit by reading around the Christmas tree.
Local leaders, community volunteers, parents, and teachers spent part of their day wednesday reading to students at John P. Freeman Optional School in southwest Memphis. The goal was to share the joy of reading and the joy of serving as a role model to the kids.
“It can take you places that you never knew, and it helps children to grow and mature quite a bit in today’s society. Just by being able to read and comprehend is key,” said parent Antoinette Jones.
Along with being able to read Wednesday, the students were also given books to take home.
