MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The head of transportation for Shelby County Schools is calming concerns about getting your child to and from class.
We’re told bus drivers have been hired throughout the summer. SCS has about 400 drivers for 340 bus routes, which amounts to 10,000-plus bus stops.
They’ve been doing dry runs on newly configured routes to make sure buses run on time.
All mechanical issues have also been addressed, and that’s not all.
“In the summer, we basically look at all the routes for efficiency. Then we make sure the drivers are provided extra training,” said Stephen Wheery, Director of Transportation for SCS. “Safety is always first. My main goal is to make sure all our kids arrive to their bus stops safe and arrive to their homes on time.”
School transportation officials advise those who have questions about their child’s school bus to call its office or report concerns online on the district’s website HERE.
