Several Shelby County Schools dismiss early due to power outages

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – UPDATE 11:30 a.m. – FROM SCS: “Due to equipment repairs at Kirby High School, Shelby County Schools made the decision to dismiss early at 11:15AM. We were able to start the school day anticipating repairs would be complete, however the decision to dismiss early was made as a result of the ongoing repairs.”

Due to a power outage in the community, Vollentine ES dismissed at 11:30AM.

All students were fed lunch before they departed. Staff will be onsite to ensure all children are picked up safely. All normal dismissal procedures will apply and buses are picking up at the dismissal time.

10:00 a.m. – Shelby County Schools says power outages have led them to decide to dismiss early on six campuses.

From SCS: “We were able to start the school day anticipating power would be restored, however the decision to dismiss early has been made as a result of the extended outage. Students will be fed lunch before they depart. Staff will be onsite to ensure all children are picked up safely. All normal dismissal procedures will apply and buses will pick up at the following dismissal times: 

Dismissing at 10:30AM

  • Havenview MS
  • Westwood HS
  • Oakhaven HS
  • Oakhaven MS

Dismissing at 11:30AM

  • Oakhaven ES
  • G.W. Carver HS
