MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The I Love Memphis blog is celebrating its 10th year, and the lead writer for the blog says the Memphians she meets is the best part of her job.
Holly Whitfield has been writing for I Love Memphis blog for the past six years. She said she loves the passion Memphians have for their city. The blog features restaurants in the area, upcoming events, and features about what’s happening in Memphis.
“Memphians are really excited about what they’re doing in the city whether it’s personal projects, nonprofit, business, starting a new kind of event,” Whitfield said.
The blog was started by Memphis Tourism to showcase all that the city has to offer. Tourism officials credit the blog with an estimated $1.3 million in economic impact through direct visitor spending in 2019.
Since its start, the blog has grown tremendously. It has more than 100,000 likes on Facebook and more than 50,000 followers on Twitter.
“We want to show the good parts of Memphis but also the real parts of Memphis,” Whitfield said. “So whether it’s the new art gallery in Orange Mound or something going on downtown or whether it’s something happening in Germantown, all of those create the true good side of Memphis.”
The I Love Memphis blog has become a staple in the city for giving a peek into all the aspects that Memphis offers.
“Even after 6 years it’s still unbelievable and still every day I’m grateful,” Whitfield said. “I’m a writer, so knowing that people are really taking to heart what I’m writing and the thoughts that I’m putting out there means a lot to me personally.”
Memphis Tourism is hosting a 10th birthday bash for the blog Saturday. It will be at Railgarten from 5:30pm-8:30pm. Memphis Tourism is also partnering with Blues City Animal Rescue for Clear the Shelters Day. Proceeds from the I Love Memphis merchandise will go to that organization. This event is family friendly. There will be live music, party favors for the first 100 guests, and a cupcake and champagne toast.
