(localmemphis.com) – In Tuesday’s runoff for Mississippi State Senate District 1, Michael McLendon has won the seat, with no Democratic opponent in November.
The Republican primary was a hotly contested seat because of the debate over Olive Branch’s attempt to annex unincorporated areas of DeSoto County.
Incumbent Chris Massey faced off against Hernando alderman Michael McLendon Tuesday. With 100% of precincts reporting, McLendon pulled ahead in the end with 52% of the vote.
McLendon has been very vocal against annexation. Massey has faced criticism for not doing enough in Jackson to fight for legislation against annexation.
