MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Members of the Greater Community Temple have been spending their summer Sundays bringing people closer to God.
They went out into North Memphis and Hickory Hill Sunday afternoon to offer prayer and encouragement to those who live nearby.
Bishop Brandon B. Porter says door-to-door ministry is an important part of the church’s outreach program, and he’s seen the positive effects first-hand.
“One year we did this and a young lady, we knocked on the door, she came to the door. She was crying profusely, and she said, ‘you just don’t know. I was getting ready to commit suicide and now you’re telling me Jesus loves me.’ So it actually saved her life,” said Bishop Porter.
Porter says Sunday’s event was especially important near the North Memphis location. There was a deadly shooting right across the street at the “In and Out Grocery Store” Thursday and he wanted to provide an opportunity for healing.
