MLGW Share the Pennies program helps to make 350 local homes more prepared for winter

Local Good News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – 350 homes in the Memphis area are now prepared for more winter weather. It’s all thanks to you.

How you ask? Because of you rounding up your energy bill each month to keep your own home warm.

MLGW – along with the city of Memphis, MIFA, and the TVA – is celebrating 350 homes being weatherized at no cost to homeowners.

The income-based program helps permanently lessen energy costs for qualifying homeowners through upgrades like insulation and window and door sealing.

“It’s an important moment because it signifies that we’re all working towards a common goal of helping our citizens. We know that energy efficiency and full-quality housing is a big issue in this community. We are working together to try to leverage the resources needed, so that we can help more people,” said Paul Young, Director of Housing & Community Development.

“Following the improvement, they (the homeowners) have a lot more pride and excitement about being in their homes. So I think it’s a big, big deal, and it helps our customers in many ways,” said MLGW CEO J.T. Young.

You helped make these projects happen through MLGW’s Share the Pennies program, which rounds up your bills to the next dollar amount to help weatherize homes for those who qualify.
