MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Dr. Rochelle Stevens is not only has a doctorate. She’s also really, really fast.
For nearly three decades, the two-time Olympic medalist has hosted the largest independent track meet in the south. Anyone between the ages of 2 and 75 were invited to St. Georges Independent School in Collierville to participate.
While Saturday was about running hard and finishing first on the track, it was also about finishing first in life.
“You can transfer those skills over to lifetime skills, and we make great employees for companies or leaders in companies because of the discipline that comes with it. And not afraid to fail. We take a licking and keep on ticking. You come back and achieve just a little bit harder,” said Dr. Stevens.
Dr. Stevens says she organized the event to help Shelby County athletes get more attention from college coaches and scouts.
