Orange Mound gets holiday treatment with Christmas decorations placed on street light posts

Local Good News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. ( – For the first time in history, Orange Mound is getting the holiday treatment. Fifty bright and colorful, 4-foot-high snowflakes now deck street light posts along Park from Lamar Avenue to Semmes just past the new Melrose High School.

This is part of a more than $31,000 Community Enhancement Grant to the Orange Mound Parade Committee. Shelby County Commissioner Reginald Milton hopes this tradition will grow with the help of businesses and community leaders.

“I got funding to put a 33-foot Christmas tree in South Memphis, and I wanted to do something special here in Orange Mound and working with Mayor Strickland, we worked hard and we came together and we came up with the idea of the snowflake,” said Milton.

The snowflakes will line Park from now through the new year.
