MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – A multi-million-dollar makeover at a Mid-South community park is now complete.
David Carnes Park in Whitehaven received a $5.4 million grant as part of BlueCross BlueShield’s Healthy Place program. The initiative is meant to improve public spaces and foster healthy communities across Tennessee.
Officials say they wanted to make a lasting impact on the community.
“What we were looking to do is something that goes on. Sometimes you fund something, it’s over in months or years. We’re hoping that these parks will be here in 30 years, right?” said Scott Wilson, Director of the BlueCross BlueShield Foundation.
The park’s new design was completed with feedback from students at Whitehaven elementary and high schools.
It will celebrate its grand reopening this Saturday, rain or shine.
